3.

Fatigues. Three men will be detailed by HQ Sqn to report to the
PRI office at 0730hrs Thu 3 Jan 46. Haversack rations will be required. 5.
Transport. Transport office will detail one 3-ton lorry to report
to the PRI office at 0730hrs Thu 3 Jan 46. Dvr to report to Cpl Bull. 6.
Discipline. Officers will NOT take out or drive scout cars,
without permission of OC HQ Sqn. 7.

of the Regimental Main Guard with him as escort, when visiting the
Hungriger Wolf and Coal Dump Guards by night. 8.

0900-0930hrs.
1200-1230hrs.
Times of issue on other days remain unchanged. 9.

Army Bureau of Current Affairs. ABCA for week 13-19 Jan 46 will
be 'Bridging The Gap', Current Affairs Pamphlet No B1 of 21 Jul 45. 11.
Officers' Shops 1.
It has been observed that the method by which 'Third Party'
purchases can be made at an Officers' Shop is not universally known. 2.
Any officer desiring purchases to be made on his behalf will hand
his ration card to a third party, who must himself be an authorised
holder of a ration card. The officer purchasing will be in possession of
a dated certificate signed by the officer on whose behalf he is buying,
countersigned by the CO and bearing the unit stamp, detailing the items
required to be purchased. 12.
Use of Skid Chains 1.
It is emphasised that the use of skid chains is by no means the
answer to skiddy roads. 2.
For normal vehicles and cars without trailers, skid chains are to
be discouraged on both icy roads and very hard beaten snow, as they are
liable to give the driver a false sense of security. Careful driving and
use of 4-wheel drive, where available, is the only effective measure. 3.
Chains are of value for deep snow and for vehicles towing
trailers where hills are encountered. Even in this case their use should
be restricted to the minimum, as they are very harmful to tyres and
roads. 13.
Pay - Avoidance of Cash Payments in Excess of Entitlement - ORs 1.
Despite the instructions published on the subject, many officers
still appear to be unaware of their responsibilities in making payments
to troops. It is their responsibility to ensure that their men do not
get into debt on account of over-payments. In the absence of official
knowledge of the state of a soldier's account, an officer is not
authorised to make a payment in excess of the net rate of pay shown in
AB64, plus any admissible allowance. 2.
Para 2 of ACI825/45 makes it clear that officers who wrongfully
pay a soldier more than his entitlement are liable for any resultant
loss to the public for such over-payment. 14.
Frontier Checks 1.
The liberated countries have set up, or are in the process of
setting up, control posts along their frontiers. 2.
Drivers of all vehicles are warned that they must obey all
signals and orders given by the gendarmes controlling these posts. 3. It
should be borne in mind that these gendarmes are empowered to force a
vehicle to stop by means of obstacles or shooting.

Disembarkation Leave 1.
Various enquiries have been received concerning officers and men
who returned to the UK during the latter part of 1943 and the first half
of 1944 from service overseas, and who were unable to complete their
entitlement of disembarkation leave before proceeding to this theatre. 2.
Only those officers and men who are posted to, and actually land
in, the UK are eligible for disembarkation leave. 3.
This ruling cannot therefore be interpreted to allow personnel
who arrived in this theatre DIRECT from other overseas theatres to add
disembarkation leave to their privilege leave. 4.
The only class of personnel who are entitled to the balance of
disembarkation leave are those who were:- (a)
Posted to UK from an overseas theatre, and (b)
Actually landed in the UK, and (c)
Were granted disembarkation leave in the UK, and (d)
Were posted to BAOR while on disembarkation leave and recalled
from leave to embark for this theatre.
