O gp 1tp already in position for PEPPER 3tp ready to move first light to join 8H on MUSTARD this evening L/SGT TYNAN of 1 tp was in comd of a sec of sqn u/comd 1/7 Queens who were making a night attack up the road South from LA VALLEE. In the initial stages of the attack whilst waiting for his sec to be committed he saw 3 armed Germans cross the rd in front of him and these he rounded up single handed with the aid of an empty Sten gun He was subsequently given the task of cleaning a deviation to the site of a mined crater. In spite of the non-arrival of his stores truck he showed the greatest resource in borrowing shovels, tape & detectors from the inf & succeeded in clearing the deviation in time working throughout some four yards only, behind our leading tps. When traffic started through his deviation, he remained to guide it past the ruts even though a carrier pulling on to a verge exploded a tellermine within a few feet of him. |

This was to fill the vacancies off tpsgt etc which they were de facto. All were impressed with the fact that this was done for the proper establishment of the sqn and they must not reckon on Subst promotion. This is in part new Practise in this unit, and the correct one. Total promotions 2 L/Sgts - Sgt, 4 L/Cpls - Cpl, 2 Cpls – L/Sgt. One difficulty is still defined sprs & dvrs who are fit for promotion to L/Cpl. The unit is almost dry of potential junior ncos. Some are able but not willing. | ||||
